I was fortunate enough to be able to show up in the Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony on Aug 8, 2008. I was there at 4 pm queuing up for security check which took one and a half hour then walked 15 minutes to the nest. The program lasted until 12 mid-night, walked another 15 minutes to the parking lot trying to find the designated bus among hundreds for our team and finally I got into the right one waiting about another 40 minutes for everybody present without missing one. |

When I was back to the hotel it was 2 am in the morning already not to mention it was 3 am till I went to bed. In addition, I was wringing my hands taking video all evening during the program using my newly bought Cannon HF-10 CMOS without having any meal, only with non-stopping sweat and tears. Physically, it was pain in the ass but I should say it is much worthier than winning a lottery. |

The show was splendid, magnificent and sumptuous; the scenes were stunning, marvelous and touching. I knew I wouldn't have a second chance to enjoy that in my life time. The Opening was extremely well organized, audiences had high spirit but well behaved (perhaps this is Chinese virtue). Yes we were proud yet we didn't conveniently forget our manner and politeness (another virtue?). One world, one dream! On the way back to Hong Kong, I was pondering: how do we ensure human genius triumphs over human folly? Gold medal winner Paul Yin |
